Mat Kilau's story...


      He is known as Mat Kilau warrior. His full name is Mat Kilau bin Imam Rasu or Tok Gajah. His mother was a Mahda, daughter of Tok Kaut Burau. Mat Kilau was born in 1847 in Kampung Masjid Pulau Tawar, near Jerantut, Pahang, son of Khatib Rasu (later Imam Perang Indera Gajah) or Tok Gajah, who was one of the district chiefs of Pahang. Mat Kilau was born in the year 1865/1866 in the village mosque, Pulau Tawar, Jerantut, Pahang. Mat Kilau was clever in his study, berzanji, and chanting tambourine study called "Dikir Gujarat".

Mat Kilau’s hobby was playing hard tops and crash fruit. When he was about 20 years old, Mat Kilau married a girl named Yang Chik binti Imam Daud, from Kampung kedondong. Imam Daud was a respected religious teacher in the district of Pulau Tawar, Jerantut, Pahang and he was a teacher hired to taught Mat Kilau and the brothers. Their marriage was blessed with Mat Kilau’s three children. After he settled down, he then learned martial arts and mysticism claim. 

Mat Kilau not only learn martial arts to follow his other friend’s footsteps, but he would learn martial arts with weapons such as keris and parang. Mat Kilau also acquire knowledge of many of his own father Tok Gajah. Many religious mysticism is demanded of Haji Muntuk (Hj.Uthman bin Senik), which was the Mufti of Pahang.
